Northwest Wine - Online Magazine
Hello St Innocent aficionados, from Marcus, here at Avalon Wine --
I'm emailing
to let you know about the exceptional St.
Innocent’s 2004 Shea Vineyard Pinot $32.36/$35.95.
Parker gave the 2002 St Innocent Shea 94 points, and this wine, imho, is as
good or better.
From the intense scent of fresh crushed fruit upon opening, to the layers and
layers of crushed red fruit, blackberry, black cherry, raspberry, etc etc,
to the long finish, it's
gorgeous. The
wine reminds us of the 2004 Shea Wine Cellars Block 23 ($48), which sold out
months ago. Yet another collectible 2004 Pinot Noir! We love
the 2004 vintage.
Each
new vintage of St. Innocent impresses us and we keep saying “OK, this
time the prices will go up”. But if they do, it’s a few cents! Mark
Vlossak is guilty of making some of Oregon’s great wines at incredibly fair values - and that makes him one of our favorite winemakers.
Several delectable whites from St Innocent are now out as well. Prices are,
as you know, really reasonable, and we especially recommend the St
Innocent Anden Chardonnay 04 $21.55/$23.95. It has a Puligny-like
character- sweet spice and great length. And the St
Innocent Freedom Hill Pinot Blanc 04 $14.35/$15.95 is simply delicious,
ripe, and smooth, with a hint of creaminess and a clean, crisp finish.
