Former King Estate Winemaker Goes Indie
Winemaker
Ray Walsh was recruited from New Zealand to
work for King Estate—one
of Oregon’s largest wineries—in
1993. His talent swept him higher and higher
until, before he had a chance to look back,
he’d progressed beyond the realm of
winemaker to executive status—ten years
of upward momentum. When Walsh finally had
a chance to reflect on his journey, he realized
he longed to return to what he loved best—the
hands-on stuff. “All of a sudden,” Walsh
said, “I realized, ‘I’m
not making wine anymore.’ I really
wanted to get back to winemaking because
that’s where I’m happy.”

Argyle Winemaker Rollin Soles at Wit's End
ROCO
Wines is the love child of Argyle’s
winemaker Rollin Soles and his wife Corby Stonebraker.
The couple produces single-vineyard Dijon-clone
Pinot noir from their Wit’s End
Vineyard located in the foothills of the Chehalem
Mountains in Yamhill County. This seven acre
vineyard was planted in 2001 with three Dijon
clones of Pinot noir selected for this site.
The first two vintages have produced intense
Pinot noir with notes of blackberry, huckleberry
and spice that show plenty of promise

Et Fille Winery
You Say Tomato, I Say Tomahto
This is the
kind of song and dance one might imagine Et Fille
(“and
daughter”) Wines father
and daughter duo Howard and Jessica performing,
replacing the lyrics with wine descriptions.
While the two share fundamental views about
business and winemaking, they have a running
dialogue about their wines, which allows each
of their unique personalities to shine through.
(They also have a whole lot of fun working
together.)
