Top
scored Oregon Pinot noir in Robert Parker's
Wine Advocate:
Eric
Hamacher's Pinot noir 03.
At
the time Parker gave the rating (June 2006),
the wine had not been released. Eric
Hamacher waits until his
wines are ready, usually two
years after most Oregon wineries. Very
little of the Hamacher 2003 Pinot noir was
made. Yields were down in a very hot season.
We're offering a mixed case of Hamacher 2002
and 2003.

Wine
Advocate says about the 03: 94
Points: " My
mouth watered as I pulled in the superb
aromas of the 2003 Pinot Noir. A hedonist’s
delight, it displays candied cherries,
vanilla beans, hints of smoked bacon, ripe
black plums, and Asian spices.
This wine
has unbridled power, massive concentration,
sublimely sweet fruit, and awesome richness.
Dominated by black cherries and black raspberries,
it slathers across the palate in viscous
waves, then lingers for 45 seconds or more
in the finish
. If this
decadent wine gains in complexity with time
it will be mind-boggling! Projected maturity:
2007-2015."

Wine
Advocate rating 90+ points: "The black fruit
and fresh herb-scented wine builds on the palate
to reveal loads of black cherreis and blackberries
ensconced in considerable quantities of tannin.
This wine has impressive depth, concentration,
and power, most likely enough to sustain its
significant structure. Projected maturity 2008-2015."
From the winery: "A racy, vibrant wine
with bright red fruits underlain by spicy plum
and cedar notes. Sweet & supple with a
long finish-- will only improve for years to
come."Tasting notes from
Marcus:
Kudos to Eric Hamacher--he crafted a 2002 Pinot
beauty. With the glass two feet away, you immediately
notice the deep ruby color. Deep is a theme
with this wine as intense dark cherry aromas
burst from the glass, highlighted by dried
rose and white flower notes. Focused red and
black cherry flavors form a plump core, while
Eric's patience is rewarded with impeccably
integrated oak. We're still thinking about
the finish--it's that long--and the impressive
balance that will allow the wine to evolve
for several years. This is a must-have for
your cellar.
FYI,
Bryce 03 and St innocent White Rose 03 shared
the 94 point honors. Both were sold out a
year ago.

Estate Pinot noir 05 Now Shipping
$40.50 case price/$45

The
2004 was #15 on Wine Spectator's Top 100
List, now the 2005 is here. The wine will
only be available until the end of January,
if supply lasts.
We're
even more excited about the 2005's than we were at this point
with the 2004's. A transparency to the flavors
is present, allowing layers and layers of intriguing
fruit and fascinating spice/incense/perfume
notes. The finish is long and reiterates the
flavors, adding a sense of silky tannins and
velvety lushness to the experience.
The nose
of the Shea Estate 05 offers raspberry, red
cherry, black cherry, black raspberry, toast,
and red raspberry jam. Flavors are of red and
black cherry, raspberry, and sweet rich fruit. There's
less sense of barrel toast and more sense of
integration in the 2005 than there was in the
2004 at this point in its development. Integration,
intensity, and complexity are all words that
come to mind in describing this wine.
