"Ken Wright has a Syrah/Claret project under the Tyrus Evans label. The fruit is sourced from southern Oregon and eastern Washington. I tasted four wines, all of them outstanding. I list them without tasting notes: 2004 Claret “Del Rio Vineyard – 90; 2004 Claret “Ciel du Cheval Vineyard” – 91; 2005 Syrah, Walla Walla – 92;
2005 Syrah “Del Rio Vineyard” – 90+." - Jay Miller

Tyrus Evan
Walla Walla Syrah 2005

$38.75/$34.88

Robert Parker's
Wine Advocate 92 points

Wine Spectator 92 points: "Not a fat wine, but focused and appealing for its juicy blackberry and huckleberry flavors and bright acidity to balance. It all lingers effortlessly on the polished, spicy finish. Drink now through 2013." 605 cases made.- HS

Avalon notes: Lush red and black fruit are focused and round with a beautifully integrated palate. Black licorice and cola notes find their way to the lingering finish. A real winner from Seven Hills Vineyard. Sweet Italian sausage and roasted rosemary potatoes would easily match the weight and spice of this lush Walla Walla Syrah.

Tyrus Evan Syrah
Del Rio Vineyard 2005

$38.75/$34.88

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 90+ points.

Wine Spectator 90 points: "Soft, supple and distinctly spicy, with a green olive note weaving through the black pepper-accented cherry and blackberry flavors. Drink now through 2012." 585 cases made.

Avalon notes: Deep dark black cherry and black currant are combined with just a touch of minerality. A delicious food wine now, that craves a rich meal of roasted venison with dried cherry demi glace.

Tyrus Evan
Del Rio Vineyard Claret 2004

$36.25/$32.62
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 90 points.

Avalon notes: A big red blend from Southern Oregon focuses on a ripe sweet plum jam with undertones of coffee and smoke. The Cabernet Franc in the blend brings a desert herb and flint characteristic that would pair well with hearty winter stews or a rich lamb tagine.

Ken Wright White Wines
Ken makes very small amounts of two white wines
under the Ken Wright Cellars label,
and one white wine under the Tyrus Evan label.

Tyrus Evan Del Rio Vineyard
Viognier 2006

$26.95/$24.25

Avalon tasting notes: Delicate and pretty floral essence of white blossoms on the nose. There is an unexpected burst of ruby pink grapefuit and a lingering apricot note on the very clean finish. This would be a great wine for Sunday brunch or other events with a multitude of foods present.

Ken Wright
Freedom Hill & Meredith Mitchell Vineyards
Pinot Blanc 2006

$23.45/$21.11

Avalon tasting notes: Bright lemon zest and tropical lime curd wrap around the mouth with clean acidity that makes this wine refreshing and cheerful. A slight herbal note on the finish is reminiscent of a summer picnic in the garden. The tropical notes would match well with passionfruit or coconut shrimp served over raisin studded sticky rice.

Ken Wright
Celilo Vineyard Chardonnay 2006

$28.25/$25.43

Avalon tasting notes: A superbly detailed Chardonnay, with round notes of ripe summer apricot and lemon. The fruit is complemented with a touch of sweet vanilla from about 10% new oak that adds to the wines richness. Hints of minerality on the finish would pair well with seared scallops.
