Father
Bruno's Blend II is Here!
Va Piano, Gonzaga,
Florence, and Father Bruno
Portion
of the proceeds from the sale of this
wine will go to Father Bruno Segatta's
outreach from Africa to Italy by donating
money to orphanages and families with
special needs.
Bruno’s
Blend Red II $22.95/$25.50
Second
release of this lively, rich red wine,
named for Father Bruno Segatta. This
release is 64% Syrah, 32% Merlot & 4%
Cabernet Sauvignon.
The winter of 2004 was
devastating for many Walla Walla vineyards,
Va Piano's included, and the wine is quite
limited, made from grapes sourced
from Pepper Bridge Vineyard, Forgotten Hills
Vineyard, Spofford Station Vineyard & Weinbau
Vineyard, based in the Columbia and Walla
Walla valleys.
Bruno's Blend II is a lively, ready to drink
blend of black fruit flavors, with hints of
barrel spice and soft velvety tannins. Flavors
are dominated by intense blueberry, black plum,
and black cherry. Drink within two years, it's
a crowd pleaser.
Food pairing This is a
fun wine for a dinner party (particularly for
anyone who went to Gonzaga)and pairs well with
hearty beef stew, grilled lamb, and beef tenderloin
with gorgonzola glaze. Bruno's
Blend is a full bodied red, packed
with intense flavors of black fruit. Despite
its youth this wine is showing well, if you
can wait six months you will be amazed.
The Story of Bruno's Blend, Va
Piano Vineyard, and Gonzaga
Bruno's Blend is
a collaboration between Va Piano's Justin
Wylie and Father Bruno Segatta,
a beloved former assistant dean at Gonzaga
University in Spokane, WA, who ran
the Spokane-to-Florence, Italy study program
for 23 years. Based in Florence, Segatta
left the university a few years ago when
the university revamped the study course,
but he is still well known in WA, OR, and
CA, and often returns to marry former students
or visit their families.
For the past few
years, Bruno--as everyone calls him-- has traveled
to developing countries, offering assistance
by selling his paintings to his supporters.
But living a lifestyle of constant travel
didn't sell throngs of artwork.
Enter former student
Justin Wylie, proprietor of Walla Walla's Va
Piano Vineyard. To help Bruno,
he created a unique red wine at a reasonable
price point to promote Bruno’s artwork
and raise money for his charities.
The
first Bruno's Blend, released last summer,
was a real hit with customers as a drink now,
crowd pleasing blend, as a fond reminder of
good times for Father Bruno's many friends,
and as a good cause. As planned, a new Bruno's
Blend will be released each year, each one
featuring a different one of Father Bruno's
pictures on the label.
