is a reflection of my love for Bordeaux,” says
Bill Owen during a recent visit to Avalon.
With a delightful blend of chocolate, raspberry,
and a hint of smooth anise, this BSH is not
just a bomb of heat and oak. Instead, it is
a bold, expressive and complex wine—worthy
of a really good dinner—or a special
occasion.
This wine really
is, as the winemaker says, built like a Brick
Sh*t House (BSH). This huge red offers so much
satisfaction, it's become a favorite among
Avalon's employees. It's predominantly Cabernet
Sauvignon, with a dollop of Merlot and a bit
of Cabernet Franc.
Mocha and spice,
desert herbs and licorice overlay a classic
Cabernet with big black fruit flavors and a

Very satisfying and beautifully integrated
with layers and layers of flavor.

 Deep,
dark, dense and powerful, a reverberant mouthful
of smoky blackberry, black cherry and licorice, hinting
at pepper and cream as the finish sails on and on.

Dense black fruits, roasted coffee, earthy
aromas and the black berry, smoky flavors,
but the overall palate impact, huge and yet
supple, is what lingers in my mind. Characteristic,
abundant silky tannins. For me the overriding
impression with this wine is its seamlessness

A lot of body and plush black fruit for the
price. Fruit from impeccable vineyards: 66%
Alder Ridge Syrah, 33% Lonesome Springs Ranch
Syrah, 1% Viognier.The bouquet shows the black
fruit character of Syrah along with earthy
exotic spice and smoke notes. Ripe, lush and
gently oaked in the palate.

This is a WOW Washington Syrah! Big perfumey
nose of black cherry liqueur and violets, with
incredible concentration. It’s rare to
find a Northwest Syrah with such good acidity
and balance (and the 13.8% alcohol is refreshing
too!). Lush, rich, and just yummy, Owen’s
small batch of Syrah from Yakima’s Dineen
Vineyard is a prime example of Washington’s
Syrah potential.

Long before Parker
rates this vintage, which we find as good or
better than the 2003, it will be gone. Here
are Marcus's tasting notes:
 Wow
the nose! Impossibly inviting aromas of sweet
black cherry pie with black raspberry, dark
chocolate, and hints of baking spice. I just
couldn't stop smelling it. The Champoux fruit
core is dense, wound up with black and red
red fruit in innummerable layers. Supple and
silky with powder-fine tannins. The whole wine
is wrapped with a delicate Bordeaux-like herbal
note that adds complexity like the sizzle of
a jazz ride cymbal--it just fits. Give it air,
give it time and you'll see why this is one
of the finest wines from one of the finest
vineyards in the entire Pacific Northwest.
