Feather,
the Sequel, on a Pedestal
Randy Dunn's Feather
Cab, John Duval's Sequel, Michel Rolland's
Pedestal
from Avalon Wine
A superstar California winemaker plus incredible
fruit from Washington: introducing Randy
Dunn’s ‘04 Feather Cabernet Sauvignon. 2004
is the second vintage for this already-cult
wine, part of the LongShadows Group. The
Feather will disappear quickly, due to its
limited production and the number of requests
we’ve received months before release.
Feather Cabernet Sauvignon
04
$53.77/$59.75
About the 2004, Randy says:
"Spicy black fruit aromas and flavors combine
with a hint of toast to make for an expressive,
age-worthy wine. Balanced, silky tannins and
intense fruit flavors add dimension giving
the wine a dense, rich mouth-feel."
Wine Spectator says:
"91 points.Dense in texture,
but not heavy, with bright red cherry, pomegranate
and plum flavors piercing a distinct layer
of fine-grained tannins. Has freshness and
grace. - H.S.

Michel
Rolland's Wine Spectator 93 points Washington
Bordeaux
Pedestal
Merlot 04
$53.95/$59.95
Before the Wine Spectator
93 point review came out, Avalon
highly recommended the ’04
Pedestal as a world class cellar selection
and sent the wine to our Northwest
Big Reds Club. If you didn’t
stock up before, now is your last chance.
There's a few magnums left as well.
Wine Spectator said:
"93
points. Dense and focused, yet balances
deftly enough to let the currant, cherry and
black raspberry fruit pierce through a veil
of crisp tannins. Has power without excessive
weight. The finish lingers extraordinarily
well. Best from 2009 through 2014. 1,624 cases
made." H.S.
Here’s what we said (the abbreviated
version!): This is an opulent, expansive Merlot
with flavors of ripe plums, sweet blueberry,
dark cherries, and cassis, giving way to leather,
minerals and more fruit layers on the finish.
Lively acidity and super-fine tannins provide
a structure that will reward years in the cellar.

Sequel Syrah ’04
Receives 92 points from Wine Spectator
Sequel Syrah 04
$50.36/$55.95
Are you sensing a theme
here? The Longshadows
wines are big, rich, collectible, highly rated
Washington wines. Ditto for the Sequel
Syrah ’04. Here’s the review:
Wine Spectator said: "92 points.
Smooth and velvety, this is a graceful, beautifully
balanced Syrah that shows off its blueberry
and plum fruit against shades of white pepper
and cedar. The finish keeps welling up with
haunting flavors. Drink now through 2014. 1,359
cases made." –HS
