====THE
WINES====
Territorial
Pinot noir 05 $16.88/$18.75
Territorial's Willamette Valley Pinot
noir 2005 is proof that great
Pinot still exists for under $20. The
nose is filled with pretty red fruit,
accented by lilacs and graham. Silky
smooth but juicy, with flavors of red
cherry and touches of mixed cherry-berry
pie.
Wine Press NW: "Outstanding" rating
for the last two vintages of this wine.
They say "Bargain hunters
should zero in on this new winery..."

Territorial
"Stones Throw" Pinot noir 03
$26.95/$29.95
Lush,
rich, plush Pinot that revels in the
lush richness of a hot vintage. It
has all the "big" qualities
we love in hot year Pinots, without a
hint of heat. Lovely scents and flavors
to please lovers of Pinots that knock
your socks off.
Territorial
makes one of the finest examples of
Pinot Gris in Oregon and their 2003
Stone’s
Throw Pinot just plain rocks. Bigger
in style, but still
classically Pinot, the Stone’s
Throw is immediately inviting with a
nose of strawberries
and cream and toasty caramel. It’s
loaded with fruit—red and black
raspberry, dark dried
cherries and even some wild strawberry—with
a velvety mouthfeel and nearly perfect
balance.
The light pepper and cinnamon on the
finish completes a wine that deserves
space in your cellar.
The wine was aged longer
than most 03s, and benefits from the
time, with integrated, seamless layers
of flavors. Not a hint of the heat that
shows up in some Oregon 2003 Pinots. At
this price, one of Oregon's better deals
in Pinot noir.

Territorial
"Capital T" Reserve 03 $35.96/$39.95
This
wine should be called Capital "L",
the L standing for LAYERS. Delicious
aromas of red, blue and black fruit
with soft toast, rich baking spices,
and a smidge of dried thyme hint at
what's to come...At first, subtle red
and black cherry, wait, then sweet,
wild blueberry, the
"T" keeps unfolding. The wine
continued evolving for three days, showing
more fruit layers and a smokey note on
the nose.
Superb density and concentration, with
perfectly integrated tannins. Territorial's
Estate Vineyards saw none of the problems
associated with hot 2003 vintage and
it shows in the excellent Capital T Reserve.
Huge plus balance plus time
in the cellar plus a
full range of flavors and scents equals OUTSTANDING
AND HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Territorial
Pinot gris 05 $13.45/$14.95
Complex and inviting aromas of candied
apple, pear, and slate that give way
to bright and lively honeyed tropical
citrus flavors of pineapple and lychee.
Add the rich, viscous mouthfeel and you
have one of the finest examples
of Oregon Pinot gris we've tasted.

Territorial
Riesling 05 $13.45/$14.95
Vinified in the traditional style, this
off-dry Riesling opens with gorgeous
aromas of dried flower, spice honey and
candied apricot. Luxurious and full in
the mouth, but with the acidity to balance
nearly 3% residual sugar.
Harvested from some of the oldest blocks
in the Estate vineyard. with vine ages
from 14 to 28 years, the wine shows the complexity
and nuance found in mature plantings.

Territorial
Dry Rosé 05 $11.47/$12.75
Territorial's Rosé is NOT like
most Pinot noir Rosés. It's so
different, I'd like to find a new name
for it.
Most Rosés
of Pinot noir are made from "free run"- the
juice that flows off the grapes before
they are crushed. Free run is considered
a lighter, less complex juice, and is
drained off to concentrate flavors in
Pinot noir. Free run juice makes an acceptable
Rosé, but one that has to be drunk
young, and loses its "oomph"
quite soon.
Territorial Rosé is
made from grapes
grown especially for making Rosé,
and free run juice plays a minor part
in its composition. The Territorial
Rosé waslovely when released,
and unlike most Rosés, is, in
my opinion, better today than is was
last summer.
The Territorial Rosé has an immediate
room-filling aroma of grapefruit, tangerine
and Rosé petal, followed by crisp
fruit flavors and a pleasing, palate-cleansing
acidity. There's more of a sense of harmony,
as time in the cellar has completed the
wine's development. Time has added to
its fresh, floral scented fruit flavors. That
streak of fresh strawberry has intensified,
as have the spicy, caraway seed tinged
herbal additions to the main red raspberry
and red cherry fruit flavors. Great on
its own as a chilled, summer afternoon
quaff, and a wonderful food companion.
So refreshing and delicious with barbequed
chicken straight off the grill.
