Walla Walla Vintners' 2005 Wines
In this week's Seattle Times, Paul Gregutt calls Walla Walla Vintners wines "Baby Leonettis" and the winery a "hidden treasure". He describes the Walla Walla VIntners wines as "flat-out delicious wines and also wines of substance". Wines that are "ripe, fruity and plush with new-barrel flavors of chocolate, butterscotch, mocha and toast." And "they sell for a third the price of Leonetti".
Gregutt continues: "Baby Leonettis or not
(Walla Walla Vintners winery is actually
adjacent to Leonetti's Uplands vineyard),
these wines are very, very good."

Walla Walla Vintners
Bello Rosso 05 $39.93/$35.96
Very Limited
Seattle Times Paul Gregutt says: the winery's "version of a super-Tuscan. Once again, half is old-vine Sagemoor Cabernet sauvignon, half is Sangiovese. Washington Sangiovese is the most successful of the Italian varietals grown here, and this lovely blend, with its appealing softness, mixes dried herbs and spicy red fruit with hints of mushroom and olive." - 11-27-07
"...The deep color and smell of porcini mushrooms, sweet leather, Sicilian olives, roasted eggplant and black truffle makes this a divine wine. This wine will take you to Gubbio, Italy where you can enjoy bruschetta tartufo followed by tagliatelle with cream and sautéed fresh porcini mushrooms topped with shavings of black truffle. Bravo! This is a limited edition wine and we only produced 247 cases, so get it while it lasts."

Walla Walla Vintners
Sagemoor Cabernet Sauvignon 05 $40.95/$36.86
Seattle Times' Paul Gregutt says: "built upon fruit from 30-plus-year-old vines. It's a classic Bordeaux blend, showing cassis, berry and cherry fruits dotted with dried herb. Delicious already, this wine successfully combines raw power with depth and character." - 11-27-07
"...Sagemoor Cabernet Sauvignon has become our 'signature' Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a classy wine that is age worthy and will bring a lot of pleasure to the collector who loves to cellar magnificent Cabernets. This is a new world blend but when you taste it blind, you will think that it was a Grande Cru from the left bank of Bordeaux, France. Do not miss pairing this wine with one of France’s great savory lamb dishes..." - the winery

Walla Walla Vintners
Merlot 05 $28.50/$25.65
"a dark and smoky wine with tight scents of cassis, raspberry and pomegranate. Suggestions of mushroom, tobacco and lead pencil waft through the finish, and this has enough concentration to spend some extended cellar time, rare indeed for domestic Merlot." - Paul Gregutt Seattle Times 11-27-07
"If you like a classic, rich, age-worthy Walla Walla Valley Merlot, this is it! ... The wines floral, lavender nose and a beginning blast of cassis are simply wonderful! Sugar Daddy caramel and cigar forms a remarkable finish to this wine. A delightful culinary pairing for this wine would be a one and one-half inch T-bone, grilled to a perfect medium rare..." - the winery

Walla Walla Vintners
Cabernet Franc 05 $26.95/$24.25
Sold out at the winery
"...The nose reminds us of the perfume you smell while torching the sugar crust for a Crème Brûlée. The midpalate oozes with the flavor of toffee in a Heath Bar and has a lingering finish of dark chocolate covered Bing cherries. Sautéed boneless chicken breast with tarragon cream sauce or sautéed halibut steaks with hollandaise sauce served with fresh peas, shallots and porcini mushrooms with steamed Chinese black rice will pair well with this Franc." - the winery

Walla Walla Vintners
Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 05 $37.50/$33.75
Seattle Times' Paul Gregutt says: The Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with "modest proportions of merlot, cab franc, carmenère, malbec and petit verdot. Round and flavorful, it's a liquid bowl of chocolate-covered cherries, with a whiff of tobacco and forest adding welcome detail." - 11-27-07
