Oregon “Insider” Value
Pinots
January

from avalonwine.com
We love introducing our
customers to small production, incredible
value Pinot Noir. Many of these Pinots come
from “Insider” wineries
that receive very limited national distribution.
Others are the entry level wines of
Oregon superstar producers. Either way, here is a
new batch of remarkable 2005 vintage value
Pinots (hint: these will get you excited about
the delicious 2005 reserve-level Pinots!).
Et Fille Willamette
Valley 2005 $19.75/$21.95
http://www.northwest-wine.com/Et-Fille-Wines.html
Sweet, black cherry and lush red raspberry
flavors and scents predominate, with big
toasty vanilla in the nose. A pleasing lush,
dense, viscous slurper, yet wonderfully balanced.
There's a hint of red licorice and vanilla
toast on the finish. "Juicy" is
the descriptor that keeps coming to mind.
Et Fille’s Willamette Valley is a gift
to Oregon Pinot lovers. –jy
Territorial Willamette
Valley 2005 $16.88/$18.75
http://www.northwest-wine.com/Territorial-vineyards.html
Each vintage, this is one of our best-selling
value Pinots. Lovely garnet color, with inviting
aromas of red fruit and delicate barrel spice.
Super-juicy, sweet red cherry flavors laced
with cranberry. Bright and lively acidity
makes for a wonderfully food-friendly Pinot.
All estate owned and managed fruit into a
Pinot that sells for less than $20?! Thanks
Territorial. –ml
Bethel
Heights Eola-Amity Hills Cuvee 2005 $22.45/$24.95
http://www.northwest-wine.com/bethel-heights-vineyard.html
This may be the most youthfully attractive
Bethel Heights Pinot yet! Beautiful aromas
of red fruit and warm cinnamon…almost
like cutting into a fresh-out-of-the-oven
cherry/raspberry pie. Don’t get the
wrong idea—it’s not just about
yummy fruit. The elegant texture and subtle
earthiness dances the Pinot noir waltz with
A serious crowd-pleaser from an Oregon wine
institution. This wine replaced the Bethel
Heights Willamette Valley. –ml
Roots “Crosshairs
Cuvee” 2005 $20.66/$22.95
http://www.northwest-wine.com/Roots-Winery.html
Pretty floral aromas and sweet cherry perfume
beckon you. Delicate earth hints are wrapped
around the elegant, cherry core. Lively and
vibrant--set your sights on a case. The only
downside of the Roots Pinot noir is that
it disappears quickly! Once again, Chris
Berg delivers a delicious Pinot under his "Roots" label.
The 2005 Crosshairs Cuvee a blend of 25 year-old
Pommard Clone Pinot and 5 year-old Dijon
Clone 777. –ml
Harmonia Pinot Noir
2005 $19.57/$21.95
http://www.northwest-wine.com/Harmonia-Winery.html
OK, we mentioned this one a couple months ago
but the wine is turning corners a developing
beautifully. Expressive aromas of berry fruit,
roses and sandalwood. The 2005 Harmonia has
a juicy, lush mouthfeel with red berry and
pie cherry that gives way to hints of milk
chocolate and creamy berry. The finish is
spicy and remarkably long for a Pinot at
this price. –ml
