Mark Ryan "Wild Eyed" 2006 Case Pack
Avalon notes: Highly recommended by Avalon! Beaming, burly black plum and black berry fruit picks up leather, anise, bacon, cocoa, and black pepper moving toward the finish. Concentrated and structured, this is a Syrah that tastes better on day two, as the layers of complexity keep pulling you back for another sip. Both previous vintages of Wild Eyed Syrah, 04 and 05, received 92 points from Wine Spectator. Winery Notes: "The 2006 vintage was a pleasure to work with and yielded a wine which is deeply colored, dense and rich. Superbly balanced, the wine exudes black plum and berries with notes of chocolate, smoke and bacon. This is a powerful, structured wine that will drink well now with decanting but will definitely benefit from short term cellaring."
Mark Ryan "Black Love" Pinot noir 06 Avalon notes: Did we say Mark Ryan and Willamette Valley? Indeed. Mark loves Pinot noir, and decided to source grapes from Lachini Vineyard to produce four barrels of 2006 Pinot noir, named Black Love after the Cab/Syrah producer's forbidden love of Pinot. This is the kind of Pinot noir you'd expect from Mark--more robust in style and flavors, showing off the pure, ripe red fruit of the 2006 vintage. Gushing cherry is accented by fleshy plum and bits of red currant, in a velvety-textured delivery. 100 cases made. Winery Notes: "What you all may not know is that Mark has a deep forbidden love for the Pinot Noir grape, and after much searching, was able to procure some beautiful fruit from Lachini Vineyard in the Willamette Valley. He drove his truck alone to the vineyard and brought back the freshly picked berries in the wee daylight hours back to Woodinville to be hand sorted and crushed. This first vintage has yielded a dark, masculine wine full of delicious cherry and plum flavors with an interlacing vanilla spice note."
"The Dissident" Red Table Wine 06 Avalon notes: Huge, toasty aromas of black fruit guide you in to a lush attack of black currant, black cherry, and sweet cedar. The finish has the right amount of grip, balancing the softness on the front end of The Dissident. Powerful flavors of more black currant, mexican chocolate, and vanilla bean resonate on the finish. Once again, Mark takes "dissident" juice--Cabernet, Merlot, and Syrah from his top vineyard sources--and turns it into one of the best value reds from Washington State. Winery Notes: "We believe this vintage of our ever-popular red table wine to be the most fabulous yet, and we are certain you will agree! This wine was produced from a blend of Columbia Valley and Red Mountain fruit and is full of intense, dark berry and black cherry fruit with hints of cedar and vanilla. Smooth, full-bodied and round, we think this is the best red wine value in the state."
Mark Ryan Crazy Mary Mourvedre 06 Avalon notes: Mark's newest brainchild is a dark and brooding 100% Mourvedre. Showing very tight upon opening, significant air time reveals ripe black berries and black raspberries, black pepper, orange peel, and a sweet licorice note that lifts through the finish. The wine will develop beautifully over the next several years. Winery Notes: "Rich, round and full, with exotic aromas of black pepper, spice, roasted meats, bramble, orange peel and crushed black raspberries, this wine is novel to keep your taste buds freshly interested and wanting more. We only made a few barrels of this and it won’t be around for long. Very limited,."
Mark Ryan Viognier 06 Avalon notes: An outstanding example of Viognier. White peach, apricot, orange blossoms and ruby grapefruit provide a lushness that's balanced by rocking acidity. We couldn't help imagining how great seared halibut with an orange beurre blanc would taste with the 2007 Viognier. Mark made the right call to blend the Ciel du Cheval and Conner Lee Vineyard lots of Viognier into one wine for this vintage. Winery Notes: "For the 2007 vintage, our two single vineyard Viogniers were vinified separately but complemented one another so well we made the decision to blend them together for one beautiful, delicious Columbia Valley blend. The fruit from Conner Lee once again brings focus and minerality with lively citrus flavors, while the Ciel du Cheval fruit offers lovely, complex ripe peach and pear notes with a touch of quince and spice. Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar said, “these are excellent Viogniers with real personality” of our previous vintage and awarded them both with 90 point scores!"
